OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Shooting a Fellow Photographer | Las Vegas

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting fellow Las Vegas photographer and friend Myron Hensel.  Myron and I bonded over the past year due to our shared passion for not only wedding photography, but photography in general.  A talented street photographer and former fashion model, Myron has made the leap into wedding photography and if his last wedding is any example of things to come, the skys the limit. Be sure to give his site a browse and send him some love on facebook.

OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Kauai, Hawaii | a Birthday Celebration

August turned out to be quite the month.  It all began with a nice jaunt over to Kauai, Hawaii to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday.  I'm quite familiar with the Big Island and Maui, but I'd never heard of Kauai until she ventured upon it in search of an island getaway.  Impressed would be an understatement; from our oceanfront room with a view to the many local landmarks, Kauai turn out to be quite the place for us.  Here are a few optics from my personal archives.

OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Chicago Wedding Photography | Kisha & Todd | 6.18.11

Last month I again had the pleasure of returning to my hometown of Chicago to photograph the wedding of Kisha & Todd.  I have known Todd since 2003, when we both worked for the Adult Cook County Probation Department.  Todd, a Kappa man, was always by far the best dresser in the department as well as an articulate gentleman, he remains an integral part of the department to date.  It wasn't until the wedding rehearsal the day prior to the ceremony that I met his soon to be wife Kisha in person, and I must say my friend Todd is a lucky man.  Kisha, a Public Defender for Cook County as well as an AKA was full of energy and bubbled with the excitement of a bride to be.  She also has one of the cutest voices you ever want to hear.  I was so happy and honored to be a part of their day.  So with that said I'd like to share a few images from the wedding of Kisha & Todd.  Hope you like...

The details....

I just had to include this little guy from the rehearsal.  Look at the innocence and wonderment in his eyes; it's the same look I have when a camera is in my hand....  :-)

That's a look of Love from the bride....

I love the naturalness of this portrait.

That's a look of Love from the groom....

I'd like to thank a few people who made this day so special:

- Wedding Coordinator: Sophronia Barber
- Make-up Artist: Nicole Rogers of Bombshell Artistry
- Florist: Kelly Flynn of Cicero Avenue Florist
- Second Shooter: Joseph Townsend of Townsend Enterprize
- Pastor & First Lady Stubbs of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church
- and of course Todd & Kisha...

Big Love,

OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Happy 4th of July! | Desert Road Trip | Death Valley

For the past two years we've been out of town on Independence Day.  This year we opted to stay put and do some exploration in our area in the form of geocaching and little desert town known as Beatty, Nevada.  Here are a few pics from our excursion.  Enjoy!

Upon entering Beatty, Nevada you'll be greeted by this neat clock that begged to be photographed on this morning.

Kitty-corner to the clock you'll find the defunct Desert Inn Motel.  I wondered if Norman Bates was the caretaker, but I opted for the image above instead.

We traveled about an hour north of Beatty to Scotty's Castle.  Interesting place built in the 20's by a Chicagoan.  The ornate door above was and entrance to the park area that's no longer in use.

A little further into Death Valley we came upon the natural wonder of the Ubehebe Crater, a massive crater that creates a wind funnel that can knock you off you feet if you're not careful.  The One snapped the photo above before I was blown away.

On Hwy 95 leaving Beatty, Nevada, we came upon this vision.  I had to stop the Jeep, take it in and make a photograph.  I only took two exposures.  Sometimes ya' just know when you got a keeper.

Big Love,
Oliphant

OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Chicago Wedding Photography | Tanya & Deon

Last month I had the pleasure of flying back to my home town of Chicago to shoot the wedding of Tanya & Deon.  The wedding and reception were held at The Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park, Illinois.  The venue was killer, the bride & groom were gorgeous and I had a ball.  Big thanks to Tanya, Deon and Townsend Enterprize.

OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Entertainment Headshot | Las Vegas

I can't believe it's been almost a month and a half since I've posted here.  We've been tirelessly working on a brand extension that I will provide more info on later.  Until then, check out a preview headshot from a session last week with our friend and fellow Chicago native, Dj Ayita.  The shoot was styled but Evelyn Thompson of EMC and make-up was provided by Brith Thomas of Las Vegas. Speaking of Chicago, we're headed there next week to shoot an engagement session and a wedding, can't wait!!!

More from this session coming soon...

big love,
O.

Self Portrait: OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER

This self-portrait was taken at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City. I love the texture of the old wood and the three windows brought me back to the Rule of Thirds, a rule that I never really gave much credence. The Art of Photography is subjective, so make your own rules!

Big Love,

Evolving: OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER | Las Vegas Wedding Photographer

The New Year is upon us and I've been contemplating a few things in reference to Oliphant | Photographer that I'd like to share. A couple of weeks ago I posted a status on facebook that read, "Frank, we gotta expand..." this was a reference to one of man's all-time favorite movies "Scarface." Essentially my goal for 2011 and beyond is to not only to concentrate on weddings, but expand my brand into family portraits and corporate headshots. In the last few weeks of 2010 I had the opportunity to shoot the aforementioned, one of which I shared below. Both experiences pretty much cemented my decision, so with that said I'd like to re-intorduced my website with a new cleaner design and few add-ons for our expansion. We also added and html site that is iPhone/iPad friendly. Just click on the portrait below! Thanks for stopping by and hope 2011 brings you success and happiness.

Big Love,
~ Oiphant
