OLIPHANT | PHOTOGRAPHER: Happy 4th of July! | Desert Road Trip | Death Valley

For the past two years we've been out of town on Independence Day.  This year we opted to stay put and do some exploration in our area in the form of geocaching and little desert town known as Beatty, Nevada.  Here are a few pics from our excursion.  Enjoy!

Upon entering Beatty, Nevada you'll be greeted by this neat clock that begged to be photographed on this morning.

Kitty-corner to the clock you'll find the defunct Desert Inn Motel.  I wondered if Norman Bates was the caretaker, but I opted for the image above instead.

We traveled about an hour north of Beatty to Scotty's Castle.  Interesting place built in the 20's by a Chicagoan.  The ornate door above was and entrance to the park area that's no longer in use.

A little further into Death Valley we came upon the natural wonder of the Ubehebe Crater, a massive crater that creates a wind funnel that can knock you off you feet if you're not careful.  The One snapped the photo above before I was blown away.

On Hwy 95 leaving Beatty, Nevada, we came upon this vision.  I had to stop the Jeep, take it in and make a photograph.  I only took two exposures.  Sometimes ya' just know when you got a keeper.

Big Love,
Oliphant
